Without Further Ado…

Dipali, our Founder and CEO, is not only the creative force behind Masala Baby, but also the glue that keeps us together and the oil that keeps things running! We asked Dipali 19 questions to kick off 2019 – read our post here to learn more about her!

Dipali, what is POWER to you?

POWER is Strength
POWER is Intellect
POWER is Emotion
POWER is Beauty
POWER is Grace
POWER IS TO BE YOU
Your true self that connects all of the these facets and allows you to become your own POWERHOUSE.

Dipali, what makes you TICK?

MUSIC – I enjoy a variety of music and it connects deeply with my soul. We always have music playing at our Soho studio.

SUNSETS BY THE BEACH – what could be more beautiful than looking at the setting sun across the horizon and the ocean and knowing that there will be a beautiful morning … and where one thing ends there is always a new beginning.

Dipali, what did you DREAM of being when you were a little girl?

I always wanted to be a creator of beautiful things, a connector … that is why artists fascinate me.

Dipali, describe one of your most POWERFUL moments in your life.

One of the most powerful moments that I can remember was when my orthopedic surgeon doctor Dad questioned me and asked if I was going to make dresses for the rest of my career when I told him I wanted study Fashion! And my answer was YES!

BUT that thought laid a foundation for me to question what I am doing, and so through that questioning I have found my path through Design that has allowed me to create more than dresses but create communities of people, artisans, women, partners and to touch several areas of creative design including Fashion, Apparel, Home Furnishings, Jewelry, Industrial, Graphics, Branding, Data Design and turn my path into a continuous onward journey to learn more, understand more, create with meaning…

Dipali, what do you love about masala baby? What resonates the most?

Masala Baby has been truly a journey of connecting the dots between cultures, design that transcends trends and being true to my “WHY”, which has always been about crossing borders effortlessly and being true to who we are… without being worried of judgement. Just appreciating different cultures, style, color and being one with all of it…

That is POWER to me… power to be our unique self, our authentic vision, to be different and yet the same.

Puja is a rockstar. Is there anything this woman can’t do? The answer is no!

Puja, what is POWER to you?

A powerful person is someone that is…

Aware of themselves, where they want to go, and takes the risks to live the life they dream of.

Open minded, educated, and changes with thetimes.

Doesn’t need others to push them, they motivate themselves to not be complacent.

Puja, What makes you TICK?

The millennial in me first thought this question was asking “What makes you annoyed?” so that’s how I am going to answer it!

When people don’t Google stuff! Before asking a question, google it to find the answer. 9/10 times you’ll probably find abetter FASTER way to do it.

Puja, what did you DREAM of being when you were a little girl?

My dreams were everywhere: from Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus, an archaeologist when I first learned about Egypt, an astronaut after reading about Kalpana Chawla (the first Indian women in Space), to a stylist after constant re-runs of What Not to Wear. I eventually landed on “doctor” according to my  3rd grade yearbook, but I wonder where I would be if I just went with my imagination!

Luz, describe one of your most POWERFUL moments in your life.

To me, a powerful moment is something that moves you in a deep, lasting way.  It’s a thought or an idea, maybe not quite fully formed, that stays with you, hanging out in the back of your mind, until one day it’s effectively implanted as apart of your beliefs.

The first time I went to the mountains in theCatskills – seeing all of the stars in the sky, the milky way, for the first time ever, next to the person I love… This moment put a lot of things into perspective for me. I felt so grateful for everything in my life that brought me to that moment.

I only have power over my own thoughts and actions, but all of my actions until then brought me to that moment in time when my heart felt so full I thought it would burst.

It was the first time I ever felt 100% certain that I’ve made the right decision for me.
